Norwich web design & digital studio — est. 2026

Websites that look exceptional. And work hard for your business.

We design and build high-performance digital experiences — engineered around conversion, speed and discoverability, and measured on what they return.

01Positioning

Good design gets attention. Great digital experiences create business results.

Most websites are judged on how they look, and nothing else. It is a low bar, and it is the reason so many redesigns change everything except the numbers.

We work the other way around. Design, engineering, conversion thinking, performance and search visibility are decided together, because they are the same problem seen from different angles. The result is a website that behaves like an asset — one that brings in enquiries, sells, ranks, and keeps earning long after launch.

A website is not a brochure. It is the hardest-working thing your business owns.

What we do

Nine capabilities. Taken on their own, or combined into a single engagement that covers strategy, design, build and everything after.

  • Distinctive design with a commercial job to do.

Art direction, layout, typography and interface design built around how your audience actually reads, scans and decides. Every screen earns its place — we design the path to the enquiry, not just the homepage.

  • Clean, fast, maintainable front-end and CMS builds.

Semantic, accessible code with performance budgets set before the first line is written. Editable where you need to edit, locked down where you do not, and documented so the next person can pick it up.

  • Structure and interaction that remove friction.

Information architecture, user journeys, wireframes and interaction design. We find where people hesitate, where they drop, and what they need to see before they act — then design that out of the experience.

    • User journeys
    • Wireframes
    • Usability
  • Single pages built to convert a specific audience.

For a campaign, a launch, a paid channel or a new service line. One message, one audience, one action — designed and written to move a defined visitor from interest to enquiry, and instrumented so you can see whether it worked.

  • Identity that holds up on screen first.

Positioning, naming support, identity systems, typography and visual language — developed for digital from the outset, then extended to everything else. Brands are experienced on a phone long before they are seen anywhere in print.

  • Technical foundations and content structure that rank.

Site architecture, crawlability, structured data, internal linking, page speed and content strategy. Taken as a standalone engagement on an existing site, or built into a new one so it launches ready rather than retrofitted.

  • Being the answer, not just a result.

Answer Engine Optimisation. People increasingly ask an assistant instead of scrolling a results page. We structure content, entities and schema so your business is understood, quoted and cited by AI search — and so the answer it gives is the right one.

  • Considered retail experiences when the work calls for it.

Product, category and checkout experiences designed to reduce abandonment and raise average order value. We take on commerce where design and conversion are the deciding factor, rather than as volume platform work.

    • Headless
    • Checkout UX
    • Merchandising
  • A partnership after launch, not a subscription trap.

Why studioseb

Five positions we hold, and are happy to be judged on.

  1. 01

    Design that converts

Beautiful websites are valuable. Websites that help businesses grow are better.

We are not interested in a design that wins a pitch and loses a quarter. Every layout decision has a job: hold attention, build confidence, remove doubt, ask for the enquiry at the moment someone is ready to give it. Aesthetics and conversion are not a trade-off — done properly, they are the same discipline.

0 competingcalls to action on any page — one clear next step, every time

  2. 02

    Built for speed

Performance is part of the experience, not an afterthought.

A slow website is a design flaw you can measure. We set a performance budget at the start, weigh every image, font and script against it, and hold the line through build. The site should feel immediate on a mid-range phone on a poor connection, because that is where most of your visitors are.

<1.2s targetlargest contentful paint on 4G

  3. 03

    Search-ready

Built with SEO and modern AI-driven discovery in mind.

Structure, semantics and schema are decided during design, not bolted on afterwards. That means clean architecture for crawlers, clear entities for answer engines, and content shaped so the right page can be found, understood and cited — whether the visitor arrives from a search result or an assistant.

100% of buildslaunch with structured data and clean semantic markup

  4. 04

    Honest advice

We recommend what the business needs, not what is easiest to sell.

Sometimes the honest answer is a full rebuild. Often it is three pages, a faster server and better copy. We will tell you which — and tell you when a project is not worth doing yet, even if that costs us the work. That is the kind of advice worth coming back for.

1 point of contactfrom first reply to launch — always the person doing the work

  5. 05

    Built around the business

Design and technical decisions connect directly to your objectives.

We start with what the business is trying to change — more qualified enquiries, higher order value, fewer support calls, a shorter sales cycle. Every subsequent decision traces back to it, and by the end of the project you will be able to see which decisions moved which number.

05About

A studio, not a supplier

studioseb is a small, independent design and engineering studio based in Norwich, Norfolk. Projects are taken on one at a time, so the person who sells the work is the person who does it.

A studio wall of printed layout sheets and typographic grids pinned in a strict grid, lit from the side.

The wall — every template, printed, before anything is built

We work best with businesses at a point of change — a new proposition, a market they have outgrown, a website that no longer reflects what they have become. The projects that go well are the ones where someone senior on the client side has a number they need to move and is willing to argue about how.

We are deliberate about scope. A project that solves one problem completely is worth more than one that gestures at five. That means we will push back on features, pages and ideas that add weight without adding return — including our own.

How we think
Commercially. Every design decision is a bet on behaviour, and behaviour can be measured. We would rather be proved wrong quickly than be admired vaguely.
How we work
In the open. Short feedback loops, real content early, staging links from week one. You see the site take shape rather than waiting for a reveal.
What we value
Craft that survives contact with reality. Fast on a bad connection, legible at arm’s length, usable with a keyboard, still correct in two years.
Why it works
Because design, build, performance and search sit with one team. Nothing is thrown over a wall, so nothing arrives compromised.

Who runs it

Sebastian Crossley

Founder & Principal

Sebastian Crossley founded studioseb in Norwich in 2026. Every project here is designed and built personally, with specialists brought in only where a job genuinely needs them.

06Process

How a project runs

Six stages. Transparent from the first call, with a decision and a deliverable at the end of each.

  1. 01

    Discover

Understand the business, audience, objectives and opportunities.

We start with the commercial picture: what the business sells, who buys it, what the current site does and does not do, and which number needs to move. Analytics, sales input, competitor review, and conversations with the people who talk to customers.

OutputFindings, opportunities, a single primary objective

  2. 02

    Strategy

Define structure, positioning, content and the conversion path.

Sitemap, page-by-page intent, messaging hierarchy and the route we want a visitor to take. Search and answer-engine requirements are set here so structure and content are decided once, together.

    OutputSitemap, content plan, conversion strategy

  3. 03

    Design

Create the visual direction, UX and digital experience.

Art direction, then key templates in full fidelity with real content, then the system that connects them. We design the states that matter — empty, loading, error, mobile — because those are the ones people actually meet.

OutputArt direction, key templates, design system

  4. 04

    Build

Develop with performance, accessibility and scalability in mind.

Semantic front-end, CMS modelling, integrations and instrumentation. The performance budget agreed at the start is enforced in build, and accessibility is checked as we go rather than audited at the end.

    OutputStaging site, CMS, documentation

  5. 05

    Launch

Test, optimise and launch the finished experience.

Cross-device and assistive-technology testing, redirect mapping, structured data validation, analytics and search console configured, then a controlled release. We watch the first weeks closely.

OutputLive site, redirects, tracking, launch report

  6. 06

    Improve

Support, measure and keep improving after launch.

Real behaviour is better information than any assumption we made in month one. We review what visitors actually do, propose changes worth making, and ship them. Entirely optional, and easy to stop.

    OutputReporting, iterations, roadmap

08Ongoing support

Launch is a milestone, not the finish

The relationship does not have to end at launch. Staying on for updates, small changes and steady improvement is genuinely useful for most businesses — and if you would rather take it in-house once everything is handed over, that is a perfectly good outcome too. The site is yours, documented, and portable either way.

Optional. Month to month. No minimum term.

09FAQ

Questions, answered directly

01 What types of businesses do you work with?

Established businesses that sell something considered — professional services, healthcare, property and architecture, finance, hospitality, specialist retail and B2B software. The common thread is a business where a website genuinely influences a buying decision, not one where it is a formality.

02 Is studioseb a new studio?

Yes — studioseb launched in 2026. In practice that means no hierarchy, no account manager, and no work quietly handed to someone more junior once a contract is signed: you get the same person from your first enquiry through to launch and afterwards, and every project gets full attention rather than a slice of one. The case studies on this site are concept projects — self-directed exercises built to show how a brief gets approached, not commissioned client work — and they are labelled as such throughout.

03 What does a typical project involve?

Discovery, strategy, design, build, launch and — if you want it — ongoing improvement. In practice that means we agree the commercial objective first, define the structure and messaging, design the key templates in full fidelity with real content, build them to a performance budget, test properly, and launch with analytics and search foundations in place.

04 Do you provide development as well as design?

Yes. Design and build sit with the same person, which is why every site launches as designed rather than as approximated along the way. Development-only work is also available where a design already exists and needs to be built properly.

05 Can you redesign an existing website?

Often that is the better option. We audit what is already working, keep the pages and rankings that earn their place, and rebuild around them. A redesign that quietly loses your existing search traffic is a very expensive kind of success.

06 Do you provide SEO?

Yes, both as a standalone engagement on an existing site and built into a new build. That covers technical foundations, site architecture, structured data, internal linking, page speed and content strategy — and careful redirect mapping when a site changes shape.

07 What is AEO?

Answer Engine Optimisation. More people now ask an AI assistant a question instead of scrolling a results page, and the assistant answers rather than lists. AEO structures your content, entities and schema so your business can be understood, quoted and cited accurately in that answer. It shares foundations with SEO but optimises for being the answer rather than ranking near it.

08 Can you build e-commerce websites?

Yes, where design and conversion are the deciding factors — product, category and checkout experiences on Shopify or a headless stack. We are less suited to very large catalogue migrations or high-volume platform work, and we will say so early if that is what you need.

09 How long does a website project take?

Plan for two to four weeks for a focused landing page or campaign site. A full marketing website usually needs eight to fourteen weeks from kickoff, depending on how many templates it needs and how ready the content is. Content is almost always the variable — we plan for it rather than hope.

10 What happens after I enquire?

We reply within one working day. If it looks like a fit, we book a 30-minute call to understand the objective and the constraints. You then get a written proposal with scope, approach, timeline and cost. No pitch theatre, and no obligation.

11 Do you provide ongoing support?

Yes, and it is optional. Updates, content changes, performance, analytics, security and new features, at whatever level you need. Month to month, no minimum term. If you would rather run the site in-house we will document it and hand it over properly.

12 Do you provide hosting?

We do — managed, fast, monitored, with staging environments and backups. We are equally happy to deploy to your own infrastructure. Either way you own the code and the domain, and nothing is locked to us.

13 How do you approach performance?

We set a performance budget before design begins and enforce it through build. That means weighing every font, image and script against it, serving modern formats at the right size, keeping JavaScript minimal, and testing on mid-range devices and real networks rather than a fast laptop on office wifi.

14 How do you measure whether a website is successful?

Against the objective we agreed at the start, and usually one primary number — qualified enquiries, revenue, average order value, sales cycle length. We set the measurement up before launch so there is a genuine before and after, then report on it rather than on traffic for its own sake.
